How to Keep Your Children Safe Online

The Infinite Brief
According to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Todd Wilton, education and communication are the primary defenses against internet predators.

Education and communication build trust and help keep the door open for kids to tell parents when threats arise and serious situations occur.

Here are tips to keep your kids safe online:

  • Look for apps designed to hide images. They might be designed to look harmless, like an additional calculator app.
  • Make sure the child understands that you will not take their phone away if they inform you of any issues, at least not the first time.
  • Monitor texting and game chatroom behavior.
  • Make them put their phone away at night.
  • Check their phone at least twice a week.
  • Make sure metadata is removed from images.
