Does the ‘Technological Border Wall’ Proposed By Democrats Threaten the Fourth Amendment?

The Infinite Brief
Senate leader Chuck Schumer and House leader Nancy Pelosi are calling for a “technological wall,” or increased border surveillance, in response to Donald Trump’s border wall proposal.

Existing border surveillance programs are already out of control and desperately need Congressional review, not expansion.

Current border surveillance programs subject people to invasive and unconstitutional searches of their cell phones and laptops, location tracking, drone surveillance, and problematic watchlists.

These programs violate the Fourth Amendment and turn everyone living within 100 miles of border—nearly two-thirds of the U.S. population into suspects.
