Google ‘Accidentally’ Failed to Tell Nest Users That Their Device Has a Microphone

The Infinite Brief
In early February, Google announced that its home security and alarm system Nest Secure would soon allow users to use Google Assistant on their devices.

Nest users were unaware that their device included a built-in microphone, since it was not listed in the technical specs or any of the product materials.

In a public statement, a Google spokesperson said, “The on-device microphone was never intended to be a secret and should have been listed in the tech specs. That was an error on our part.”

The spokesperson also said that the microphone had never been used, citing that the only reason the microphone was included was for potential future updates that utilized the feature.
