Hackers Gained Access to All Non-Corporate Hotmail, Outlook Accounts By Abusing Hacked Microsoft Support Account

The Infinite Brief
A recent security breach resulted in hackers being able to access email content from a large number of Outlook, MSN, and Hotmail email accounts.

A hacker or group of hackers broke into a Microsoft customer support account, and then used that to gain access to customers’ email accounts.

While Microsoft claims the hackers only could have accessed email folder names, the subject lines of emails, and the names of other email addresses the user communicated with, screenshots show that the technique allowed full access to email content.

Microsoft said it immediately disabled the compromised customer support account once the company discovered the issue.
