Instagram Ad Partner Secretly Collected Locations and Stories of Millions of Users

The Infinite Brief
Hyp3r, an apparently trusted marketing partner of Facebook  and Instagram, has been secretly collecting and storing location and other data on millions of users, against the policies of the social networks.

It’s hard to see how it could do this for years without intervention by the platforms except if the latter were either ignorant or complicit.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the report, saying: “HYP3R’s actions were not sanctioned and violate our policies. As a result, we’ve removed them from our platform. We’ve also made a product change that should help prevent other companies from scraping public location pages in this way.”
