Senator Wyden Says Mark Zuckerberg Should Face Prison Time for Lying to American People

The Infinite Brief
U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) suggested that Mark Zuckerberg should face a prison term for lying to American citizens about Facebook’s privacy lapses.

The Senator said, “Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly lied to the American people about privacy,” Senator Wyden said in the interview. “I think he ought to be held personally accountable, which is everything from financial fines to — and let me underline this — the possibility of a prison term.

A law professor from the University of Oregon said “the likelihood of criminal action is rather slim.”

In July, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission fined Facebook $5 billion, the largest ever imposed by the FTC against a tech company, after it started probing the company’s privacy practices in March 2018.
