Tourists on Safari are Leading Poachers Directly to Their Prey Through Social Media Posts

The Infinite Brief
Safari tourists sharing rare sightings of endangered animals on social media are leading poachers to threatened species.

National park officials are now considering jamming their phone signals to stop holidaymakers from advertising the locations of the endangered creatures.

Kruger National Park in South Africa released a phone app providing real-time updates from the park with GPS co-ordinates has been downloaded tens of thousands of times.

Under pressure from tourists, rangers are abusing the radio network, which should be used only in emergencies, to share information.
